PhD candidate, MIT Media Lab; Founder, 3dim
Andrea Colaço is a PhD candidate at the MIT Media Lab. She is also a research affiliate with the signal transformation and information representation group at RLE, MIT. Her research is focused on creating novel user interfaces and natural input for new form-factors devices of the smart-everything era. Most recently, she developed a miniaturized, low-power 3D sensor for touchless gestural input to mobile devices and wearable tech like the Google Glass. Andrea is a 2013 Ink Fellow, two-time winner of Qualcomm innovation fellowship competition in 2011, 2012.
Andrea is also an aspiring tech entrepreneur. She recently led her startup, 3dim, to win the 2013 MIT $100k entrepreneurship contest. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys mentoring young geeks. In 2009, she co-founded the Media Lab Design and Innovation workshop series, conducted annually in partnership with top Indian universities.
